Mexican Medical Tourism

Despite recent bad press, Mexican medical tourism is alive and well in several border towns. But before you book your appointment for a Tiajuana Tummy Tuck, there are a few things you should know.

  1. Always look for a Mexican Medical Association (MMA) board certified surgeon
    • MMA surgeons have at least attended some classes and know better than to use plastic sporks as medical instruments
  2. Beware of scam advertisements
    • The Mexican Medical Tourism Association advises patients to avoid ads with tell-tale terms or phrases such as, “Dr. Manuel-Antonio no is bad doktor
  3. Review list of medicines used in procedures
    • Stay away from doctors prescribing anesthetics such as lead (injected at high velocities) or fentanyl
  4. Avoid high risk surgeries
  5. Always pay in cash
    • Doctors willing to accept women and/or children as payment are likely “running a side business
