Despite recent bad press, Mexican medical tourism is alive and well in several border towns. But before you book your appointment for a Tiajuana Tummy Tuck, there are a few things you should know.
- Always look for a Mexican Medical Association (MMA) board certified surgeon
- MMA surgeons have at least attended some classes and know better than to use plastic sporks as medical instruments
- Beware of scam advertisements
- The Mexican Medical Tourism Association advises patients to avoid ads with tell-tale terms or phrases such as, “Dr. Manuel-Antonio no is bad doktor“
- Review list of medicines used in procedures
- Stay away from doctors prescribing anesthetics such as lead (injected at high velocities) or fentanyl
- Avoid high risk surgeries
- A Sinaloa Sex Change may be cheap, but outcomes rarely live up to the hype
- Always pay in cash
- Doctors willing to accept women and/or children as payment are likely “running a side business“
