California bans gender reveal parties

In an effort to protect unborn children, California has banned the practice of “gender reveal” parties. Governor Gavin Newsom signed the bill into law Sunday at the Lions Den Bar and Lounge, a popular San Francisco Drag club. Kim Johnson, California’s Director of Social Services, proudly announced the passage of the bill. “This is such a pivotal moment in promoting the social well being of children in California,” she gushed. “And It’s about time California bans gender reveal parties. A disgusting practice, I might add. This is a clear message to cis parents that they are no longer the arbiters of our state’s children.”

The bill makes gender reveal parties for unborn children a class 1 felony and carries a $50,000 fine and minimum sentence of 10 years. Parents are allowed to have gender reveal parties for children as young as six. however, they still require a special permit, completion of 60 hours of gender neutrality training, and a psychological evaluation by the state.

The new law was heralded by trans activists as groundbreaking. Bob Onnit, A spokesperson for the LgbTq+n community had this to say. “This law is awesome. I mean for real. How could any kid know what gender he/she is if they’ve never attended a drag show?”
