An anonymous person sent their unexpired NC license plate to the Trump campaign as a novel piece of memorabilia. Siezing a golden opportunity, Trump offered the license plate up for auction at a recent rally. The famous auction house, Kristie’s, managed the bidding event, with the expectation that it would bring in several thousand dollars. Kristie’s certainly earned their commission when the bidding finally petered out at $13M.
Custom plates have brought in over $20M according to CarBuzz.com. But no standard issue plate has even come close to the $13M raked in by this seemingly unremarkable plate. Perhaps it’s the FJB national sentiment that makes it so special. Or maybe the buyer just wanted a NC license plate really bad. Who knows?
