California Governor Gavin Newsom bragged Sunday about the states restrictive gun laws and how they make California one of the safest places to live. On the NBC Sunday news program, Meet the Depressed, Newsom was exuberant about the states position. “We’ve enacted the most strict gun laws in the nation. And we’ve begun to look at violent crime through a different lens. Rather than just measure crime rate, California is the first state to begin measuring crime rate acceleration. In this measure we find good news. Our violent crime rate acceleration has dropped from 12.2% to 11.9% in the last year,” Newsom stated. Host Chuck Todd had few questions for Newsom on the topic and failed to point out that the crime rate is not actually dropping. Rather, the rate at which crime is increasing has slightly decreased. Oddly, California is the only state that uses crime rate acceleration as a measure of success. Everyone else just uses the crime rate.
