A woman who recently took up fitness classes to improve her health, lost her left arm while trying to remove a sweaty sports bra. The incident took place in Charlotte, North Carolina after she completed a spinning class at the local Planet Fitness. According to hospital authorities, the woman returned home after the class and, while preparing to shower, became entangled in her sports bra. With her phone tucked neatly into the media pocket of her bike shorts, the woman couldn’t call for help. It wasn’t until hours later, when her husband returned home from work, that he found her and called 911.
By the time EMS arrived, circulation to her arm had been cut off for so long that permanent tissue damage had already occurred. ER doctors did all they could to save the arm, but ultimately had to amputate at the shoulder. Lawyers for the woman vowed to sue the bra manufacturer, and possibly Planet Fitness for not having adequate warnings about the dangers of sweaty sports bra removal. The husband was heard muttering, “if those damned things were made for actual people with boobs, this would have never happened.”
