Remember the Tide Pod challenge of 2018? How about the cinnamon challenge of 2012 before that? You know, stupid people challenging other stupid people to something really stupid? The latest craze on TikTok is the Fiberglass Facials challenge. The videos feature a beautiful teen grabbing a wad of Owens Corning R18 fiberglass from the attic and scrubbing her face with it. While she’s scrubbing, she touts the benefits of the glass microfibers lifting blackheads and gently removing pimples.
Hundreds of desperate teenagers have been hospitalized after attempting to clear up their acne with this “simple, effective, and economic” treatment. And the insanity doesn’t stop there. Alongside the Fiberglass Facials Challenge are other equally stupid home treatment regimens showing up on video streams everywhere. Take the Weller Warts treatment, where you use a soldering iron to “permanently and painlessly” burn off genital warts. There’s also the Mobil One Motor Oil Detox that suggests drinking a quart of 5W-30 synthetic motor oil every hour to “cleanse and detoxify”.
And finally, there’s a hot new take on the coffee enema. Sleepy college students trying to get juiced for their first class of the day are encouraged to try this one. The video host first replaces the enema bag with a funnel, then inserts the enema tube. She then pours a whole pot of steaming hot coffee into the funnel, followed by a Red Bull chaser. According to the TikToker, “the hotter the coffee, the better”. She claims, “you’ll be instantly awakened. And the effervescent Red Bull immediately cools, sooths, and stimulates.” Surprisingly, she didn’t suggest filtering the concoction afterwards and blending it into a smoothie that you could enjoy all day.
