Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, made a surprise last minute trip to Cuba on Sunday to celebrate Father’s Day. Upon arriving he was personally received at the airport by President Miguel Diaz-Canel. After a short photo op, he made his way to former President Raul Castro’s house for lunch. “It’s so good to see you Uncle Raul,” Trudeau could be heard saying as he hugged his comrade. After a lavish lunch, he and the former leader left the Castro residence for a Sunday drive around the countryside. Ultimately the pair visited the grave site of the late Fidel Castro, beloved communist leader of the country for 35 years.
As they laid flowers at the grave site, Castro stated, “My brother would be so proud of you young Trudeau. You always made him proud.” Trudeau, with a tear in his eye, quietly thanked his uncle for the kind words.
Later they went to the tobacco district of Havannah where Castro commandeered a local pub and smoked a pair of $500 Cohiba Behike cigars.
Upon returning to Canada later that evening, Trudeau denied rumors of his relationship to Fidel Castro. “In Cuba we call everyone uncle,” he said.
